The K9 boot is in honor of our German shepherd, who joined the police force earlier this year, and Sheriff Jim Skinner. Sheriff Skinner of Collin County Texas, and two of his counterparts in neighboring counties, introduced Proposition 10 to the Texas ballot in 2019. Prior to this legislation, Texas law required police dogs to be auctioned off, or destroyed, when no longer in use; as they were deemed government "property". On November 5th, Texans overwhelmingly voted to change the Texas Constitution to ensure retired law enforcement animals can be adopted by their handlers.
